Promotional Blurbs

Below are a few examples of short promotional pieces I wrote weekly for event ticketing company Groovetickets (later on Flavorus). Usually two to three blurbs were required for the homepage to highlight events and drive sales.

A Love that Lasts

In a culture characterized by increasingly decreasing attention spans and dedication—still there?—things getting old fast is more the rule than exception. Cute tricks and new phones, so over them. But fickle fancies aside, not everything is destined for the ditch pile and we have a few keepers that will always be fresher than a just-plucked daisy in dew. Love, my friends, will NEVER get old. It’s the freshest thing human civilization’s got since we evolved past hunched postures and brow ridges the size of a planetary ring around Saturn. Something else that never gets old? Getting your jollies on. Heck, what’s life without a few kicks to make the daily hunting and gathering less a bore ‘n’ chore?

Good news then that these two chief delights collide yet again in Oahu, Hawaii this July 23rd for The Love Festival Hawaii! The Wet N Wild Water Park welcomes Go Venture’s insanely popular 13th Annual Summer Island Massive back for another record-breaking reprise filled to the gills with hot and happy folks ready to get their hearts racing to some sweet, sweet love set to a soundtrack of today’s best dance music. On stage rotation duty slinging slick beats will be Diplo, Jack Beats, Morgan Page, DJ Reza, G-Spot, and an army more! The Fourth of July may well be over but that doesn’t mean the party and celebrations have to stop. Make a stop in beautiful Hawaii come end of June and let’s all hear it for Love Love Love.

Utopia of Dance

If Dorothy was an actual girl who lived today instead of on the fictional pages of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, she’d likely jump at the first chance to click the heels of her fab shoes and utter the magical phrase, “There’s no place like home,” when she finds herself tired of exposing fraudulent wizards and melting evil witches. It’s all fine and dandy helping your friends get their share of brains, heart, and courage but a girl needs her fun now and then, and there is truly no place like Kansas this June 1 and 2 for just that—fun. Borda Productions brings Dancefestopia to the Richard L. Berkley Riverfront Park in downtown Kansas City this upcoming June for a weekend that will sweep you up into a utopian party zone experience like none other. Girls need their fun but that doesn’t mean guys can’t have theirs too!
At the forefront of the line-up are Wiz Khalifa, Flo Rida, 3OH!3, Matisyahu, Dev, New Boyz, Morgan Page, Yelawolf, 2 Live Crew, Breathe Carolina, Outasight, Yolanda Be Cool, Matt Darey, Filo and Peri, Hyper Crush, XV, Jump Smokers, Nina Sky, Iggy Azalea, Irv Da Phenom, Secret Panda Society, Lenny Mink, and many more! With talent galore and camping available, there is no reason to leave the party. And even better yet, getting your tickets before April 30 means you’ll be saving some cold hard cash to spend come festival time! So start your summer off with a bang and leave Toto at home this June in Kansas!

The Fascination with Morrissey

Musical relevance is a rare commodity sought by many and achieved by few. And it’s surely not for the lack of trying or what have you. The cycles of culture and popularity are as fickle as they come, and a parade of artists have come and gone without leaving so much as a mark in the collective memory. For the handful who have caught our attention and held it, it has been no mean feat. And for those that have reached iconic status without having had to die too young or die after many decades of proving their worth, something of a phenomenon. Morrissey is just such a one.
Whether inciting violent love from his fans or raising condemnation from his detractors, his widespread influence cannot be denied and his je ne sais quoi, overlooked. Morrissey is quite simply an artist who cannot be ignored. From formative alternative rock band The Smiths to his ensuing solo career releasing hit after hit, it’s no wonder the contrarian singer has captivated audiences for years with his unique mix of drama, desolate humor, and provocative doom—not to mention his distinctly haunting vocal style. Tough men have cried to his lyrics, enthusiastic fans have crushed together for glimpses of his compelling live performances, and to this day, quiffs are still emulated in honor of one of the most influential artists of our times. For diehard fans who want to catch another memorable performance or uninitiated music geeks looking to see a living musical icon in action, luck is with you. Morrissey is on tour again and slated to grace the Kaka’ako Beach Park Amphitheater in lovely Honolulu thanks to BAMP Project this May 19. Get tickets while you still can because icons may have a longstanding hold on us, but they won’t be performing forever. So don’t miss out on this golden opportunity!

Supersize This

Anything worth doing is worth overdoing—at the very least, doing big. Why go halfsies when you can full throttle to maximum effect and back for the penultimate turbocharged experience of a lifetime? Not to say you should shovel another leftover serving of that holiday HoneyBaked ham down the already-crammed gullet and top it off with a heap of canned Cool Whip big. More like seeing off one heck of a year with a proper nod and wave and enough hoopla to welcome the coming one in hopes of smoother sailing in the days ahead. If you find yourself orbiting about Los Angeles this New Year’s Eve, it’s highly advisable you set course for The Shrine Expo Hall December 31st for Giant’s 12th Annual NYE celebration.
Set amidst an exotically decadent Moroccan sprawl of indoor and outdoor space, this year’s NYE 2012 celebration opens up to welcome those of you 19 and above and features a panoramic wrap around VIP Mezzanine for you high rollers and some seriously exclusive partying. On board for the evening’s grand finale of the year soundtrack will be none other than dance floors’ hallowed high priest Benny Benassi along with Swedish mix masters Dada Life, pushing their modus operandi to have fun and don’t look back—ever. Not to mention a troop more of talent at the turntables along with festival fun and a giant Ferris wheel to boot. A veritable sendoff for 2011 indeed! This NYE, go big or go bust. It’s Big Time NYE 2012 all the way!

Creatures of the Night

Doing good AND prowling the night? Yes, it can be done even if you’re not a billionaire industrialist playboy with a thing for caped bat-suits mincing his way around the roofs of tall buildings to find purse snatchers to clinch in your chokehold. Instead, you can don some colorful gear, enjoy the pleasant company of some happy people with friendly vibes, and explore rolling grounds ripe with imagination while dance music masters spread out over multiple stages serenade the night. All the while, the purchase of your golden ticket has shed a buck into the do-good bucket slated for support of several non-profit charitable organizations. Doing good AND prowling the night? Yes, it most definitely can be done.

This coming September 23rd and 24th, work your way into Nocturnal Wonderland at NOS Events Center for headliners Avicii and Kaskade. Insomniac hosts another magical night of surreal satisfaction with a promise to donate $1 per ticket to some worthy causes. Drink in the lightshows, hob-nob with the circus, and let the theatrics stun you silly. Full line up to be announced soon. Check back for updates or visit http://www.nocturnalwonderland.com/. In the meantime, plan ahead and get your tickets while you still can!

The Carnival Is Coming to Town

In a somewhat more distant past, work and living leaned on the more physically strenuous end of the activity scale with a lot less opportunity for gatherings around the water cooler for juicier tales of office intrigues, smoke breaks and the occasional interweb lulz to lighten one’s day. After a hard season of drudging out a harvest and knocking oneself out over the haymaking, when the traveling carnival hit town, you bet your sweet bippy it was a very welcome diversion. Today, even if the jobs are different and much less backbreaking, when a carnival puts out word it’s coming to town, the excitement is still very much intact—especially when it is none other than the Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC).

Yep folks, it’s that time of year again to comb out your fur boots, locate those light-up gloves and bring out your best partying selves for the grandmaster of all electronic dance festivals this side of the western continent. Taking a break this year from L.A., EDC has set its sights on Sin City and packs up the show to unfurl in a dazzling explosion of lights, visuals, sound, and beautiful young things ready to bring the funfair to the next level this June. Upgrading to three days of massive radness, the carnival opens June 24th, 25th and the 26th in Las Vegas with tickets going on sale April 23rd. Start stacking those pennies and gathering your friends. More details coming soon!
